Anamude, whose previous release I reviewed a year or so ago,
have come back with a three-song single entitled Honey.
In true minimal style, they offer us a nice selection of pleasant,
acoustic pop, not far from Mojave 3 territory.
The first song is the title track, a sparse, heavily stylized pop
tune pitting soft female vocals over a playful, repeated guitar
part. It almost sounds like a hymn, except less mass-like.
"Lunch," meanwhile, is a somewhat more complex tune, with a
bit more melodic variety and some nice acoustic soloing. Very
pleasant. Finally, we have "Urban Comfort #2," which
was the "missing piece" to their last EP. It is probably
this disc's best moment; at four minutes, it's a pretty long acoustic
tune, but it's still very enjoyable. The playfully varied guitar
part is a revelation.
When all is said and done, this is a very enjoyable artifact of
acoustic pop. I can't say I've always been interested in the
genre, but this EP is quite stunning. Pretty vocals and basic,
infectious melodies really are all you need.
