(Crunchy Frog Records - www.crunchy.dk) That's right, a compilation by Denmark's famed Crunchy Frog Records! Essentially, what we have here is a collection of catchy songs by bands such as The Superheroes, Learning From Las Vegas, and The Tremolo Beer Gut, among others. Lots of this is very unconventional pop, though, for example, The Superheroes throw in some newwave, some synth-pop, and even a bit of surf into their songs. Other bands, such as The Mopeds take a more traditional, but still fun, approach to the genre. The Tremolo Beer Gut's amazing instrumental 60's film score-esque pieces deserve to be listened to by everyone. It reminds me of some of Piero Umiliani's film scores, just more dynamic and vibrant, plus with strong surf elements to it. Tothe International have weirder songs, using fond sounds, weird guitar work, which still remain catchy and fun. Learning From Las Vegas plays the most conventional, traditional music here, that is instantly catchy and dang fun to listen to. But we knew that already from their excellent full-length, "Petit Bourgois," didn't we? Düreforsog's pieces are darker and harder, and even psychedelic, but they are also catchy-beyond-belief. This is a great sampler that showcases the amazing bands on Crunchy Frog. 85%
