Oblio

"Create The Night pt. 1" CDEP

Casino Records

Genre: alt rock, folk-rock, pop / rock

August 2007

On the Create The Night pt. I EP, Oblio play alt. rock steeped in influences as far-reaching as country, folk, jam rock, and reggae. Sounding a lot like Jack Johnson and that ilk, these folks are inoffensive almost to a fault. Very upbeat, with "She-Devil" probably taking the crown for the best song on here. This is very accessible, and certainly sufficiently melodic, though I find it a little too coffeeshop for my taste.

Fun Fact: Oblio is the main character in The Point!, a fable written by Harry Nilsson about a world where by law everything and everyone had to have a point (a physical point, that is, though any symbolic double-meaning is free to be pondered). Said Nilsson, "I was on acid and I looked at the trees and I realized that they all came to points, and the little branches came to points, and the houses came to point. I thought, 'Oh! Everything has a point, and if it doesn't, then there's a point to it.'"
