Milton and the Devils Party

"What is All This Sweet Work Worth?" CD

Self-released

Genres: indie pop, pop/rock

June 6 - 12 2005

What is All This Sweet Work Worth? sneaks up on you and hooks you before you even know it.  Milton and the Devils Party are very adept at composing catchy, literate pop songs.  Strangely, the album's first two songs are a couple of their weaker compositions; "End of the Affair" is okay but unmemorable, and "Perfect Breasts" is nothing more than a bit of raunchy fun.  Fortunately, the third and fourth songs - "Heathen Eden" and "Live Without Me" - are two of the record's best; the former, in fact, is one of the best straightforward pop songs I've heard in a long time.  While I do notice a considerable amount of filler on this disc, there seems to be a sufficient number of truly great songs to make the record worth it.  Dig tracks like "Ugly American" and "Give You The Creeps" for what they're worth - this isn't life-changing, but it sure makes life pleasanter in the meanwhile.
