Let's Get Out of This Terrible Sandwich Shop

"Hatchet" b/w "Misery Tomb" 7"

Mimosa Enterprises

Genres: indie pop, pop

July 25 - 31 2005

Let's Get Out of This Terrible Sandwich Shop is the work of Tony Mendoza, a Ron Sexsmith-like character who likes to sing silly songs over a Farfisa organ and drums.  It's a simple combination, but it can make for some pretty catchy music.  "Hatchet" is a melodic tale of a hatchet and the power it brings.  Fun stuff, in a sort of nerdy singer/songwriter vein.  "Misery Tomb," meanwhile, is more of a skit - I'm not sure I understand it, but there's some experimental music, some sort of comedy routine and a short little blast of pop in the end.  All in all, this is a neat little disc; "Misery Tomb" is a tad confusing but "Hatchet" is good fun.
