Robe.

"Flesh" CDR

self-released

Genre: drone metal, black metal

July 11 2008

From the droney black metal camp comes Robe., a dark band that takes cues from Boris, sunn o))), et al. but has a distinct sound of its own. Flesh is a thirty minute trip to Hell and back, shaking through many phases and transitions on its way. At times droning and abstract ("Curdled," "Powers"), at times more structured ("Blood," vaguely jazzy "Soundshapes") and even song-like ("The Demon," angry "Genital Genesis"), Flesh is consistently morbid and unsettling - the sort of thing that turns nightmares into full-fledged terror. By the time the droney and only subtly recognizable cover of The Yardbirds' "For Your Love" harkens the album's last track, you'll feel as if you've spent the past twenty-five minutes descending into the earth's molten core. Beware.
