Cult of Sue Todd

"Not Not Not Not Not Not Not Not Not Not Not Not Not Not Not Not Not Not Not Not Not Not Not Not" CDEP

self-released

Genre: rock, punk rock, "punk folk"

June 2008

I liked Cult of Sue Todd's old EP, Nothing Noteworthy Happened Today, due to its fractured, country-ish banjo songs. On Not Not Not..., this newly-expanded trio has put together an EP's worth of what they call "punk folk." That means we get energetic, punky rock music with a bit of a country angle to it. Under two minute "Tampa" is a good prototype - zippy tempo, surfy guitar sound, and spoken-ish vocals. "Snatch" and "Burma," meanwhile, are much raunchier. The folk influence is a bit of a stretch, but for loud, energetic rock music, this isn't bad - if nothing special. Bring back the banjo, guys!
