Canartic

"Bouncing Radar Beams Off the Moon" CD

Dank Disk

Genre: dub, electronic

June 2008

I guess you could call this psychedelic electronic dub. Canartic combines guitar soloing with dub basslines and electronic beats and textures to produce a sound that's distinctly their own. Bouncing Radar Beams Off the Moon will be a treat for dub fans, though I find the formula can get a little tedious after awhile ("London 67" and lengthy "Pie Eyed Piper" drag). Fortunately, these guys do keep things interesting with slick sound and some nice melodies - the attention to detail is certainly appreciated. Opener "Send" is a refreshing wave of electronic dub, and "Narcatic" is loose and interesting. At fifty minutes, this record is surely geared towards dubheads, but it is by no means a boring or unsuccessful effort.
