Winter is a promising little release for Dead Digital, a fairly young electronic label trying to get its name out there.  Escape Pod make vocal-heavy electronic music that is considerably more pop-based than many likeminded artists out there.  The opening title-track is a breezy indie pop tune infused with synths and an electronic beat; I'm tempted to compare this to The Decemberists, as it shares in the band's infectious lushness.  "Living In Books" seems a bit more assertive (due to a stronger beat and some more coarse electronics), but the lovely "Seeing" reintroduces Escape Pod's talent for original, lovely pop music.  The piano background isn't really too electronic; the few sparse synths on here serve to build atmosphere rather than accentuate the melody.  Winter might be a little short to buy alone, but it certainly bodes well for Escape Pod's future.  If the upcoming album is a strong as this EP, we're all in for a real treat.
