Denison Marrs

Self-titled CD

Floodgate Records

Genres: rock, modern rock

May 2 - 8 2005

Denison Marrs is a strong melodic rock band on the consistently solid Floodgate label.  This album's songs are dramatic, dynamic rock compositions that combine a Dismemberment Plan and No Knife cutting-edgeness with a mainstream accessibility.  The album is very addictive in its own way; what it lacks in originality it makes up for in sheer catchiness.  Tunes like "Last Hope" and "Secret Sinner" are incredibly enjoyable and intense, easily good enough to break into mainstream alternative radio.  The band can be a tad homogeneous, however; the only real break from their trademark intensity is "Secret Sinner," a more extended, drawn-out rocker that gradually builds to a powerful climax.  All in all, Denison Marrs' self-titled album is a perfect fit for fans of energetic, modern rock music.  Impressive.
