Semi Precious Weapons

"We Love You" CD

Razor & Tie

Genre: rock, glam-rock

New York City

Dec 27, 2008

Strangely enough, the opening track is one of the worst on Semi Precious Weapons' fiery debut. These glam-rocking New Yorkers fortunately have furnished the majority of the rest of We Love You with some pretty infectious music, with highlights including the nineties grunge-rock of "Bleed to Heal" and anthem "Her Hair is on Fire". On "Genius," meanwhile, the band rears its sensitive side, and blazing "Jesus" and "Rock N roll Never Looked so Beautiful" will leave you with a sweaty brow. They have an undoubtedly radio-friendly enthusiasm to their sound, although the occasional linguistic indiscretion lends them some edge (track seven is named "That's Kunt"). This, of course, is all part of the band's crass image, something that has been carefully constructed by lead singer (and up-and-coming jewellery designer) Justin Tranter. Whether Semi Precious Weapons will make it big remains to be seen, but as it is now they've got plenty of swagger and they write some impressively infectious rock music. Whether they catch on or fade away remains to be seen.
