Lafi

"You're the Same Kofi Fool, Creep!" EP

Defekt Records

Genre: experimental pop, lo-fi, electro pop

Berlin, Germany

Dec 8, 2008

The second record on Israeli micro-label Defekt Records, You're the Same Kofi Fool, Creep! is a bizarre journey orchestrated by Lafi and drummer Adi Gelbart. This is dark and strange child-pop distinctly reminiscent of Young Marble Giants' work. Guitar chimes are sent reverberating as Lafi's cute vocals take the stage. Weird synths are thrown in to accentuate the topsy-turvy atmosphere, while Gelbart's percussion is simple but effective. Among the better tracks are zippy "You're the Same," infectious toy-popper "Kofi" and schmaltzy "Creep." Given this record is only six songs long, and its lengthiest track clocks in at two minutes and eighteen seconds, this a very brief sampling with which to get acquainted with Lafi's brand of weirdo pop. Both fortunately and unfortunately, it leaves you wanting more.
