Cogna

"Trust me: I'm in Cogna" CDR EP

self-released

Genres: electronic, goth

November 2006

They call their musical style "electrical cabaret - anti-trance - low-key drama." Well that could mean any number of things, but in this case we get amateur, electronic-heavy gothy stuff. Forget melody, this is about the atmosphere (I guess) but I just find it cheesy. Perhaps the goth kids go for this sort of thing but to me it's completely unappealing. Synths, gloomy vocals, miscalculated beats... there isn't enough to hang on to. Parts of this sound like they could have been made by me on a Yamaha keyboard, and I don't know how to play. Only the eerie melody of "Fireplaces" caught my attention but a single element isn't enough to sustain an EP, even if it's under twenty minutes. Better luck next time.

Fun Fact: Cogna is also an acronym for the Council of Geographic Names Authorities. How exciting!
