These spry L.A. kids
like grandiose guitar anthems and easy-to-digest hooks, and while
The Current State of Our Future primarily sticks to pop/rock
standard formula, it does exude a confident, gleamingly-polished
demeanour. Yes, these songs are awash in gloss n' glitz, as on
Coldplay knock-off "An Empty Handshake" and Country Crows
coloured ballad "All My Life." The main attraction is the
titular lead
single; you've essentially heard this track before, in car commercials, on fashionably melodramatic teen
soaps, playing in clothing stores - but its marriage of indie rock
attitude and barnyard stomp renders it hopelessly addictive. It's
the most memorable song on this hook-laden though hardly
groundbreaking EP.
