"You Still Have Summers" CDR

Series Two Records

Genre: lo-fi, bedroom pop

Michigan, USA

Jan 2009

Lo-lo-lo-fi bedroom pop is what can you expect out of this Swedish one-man operation. Jonas Johnsson has as unpolished a yawl as one might expect, and these simple acoustic guitar / vocals / drum machine compositions are certainly intended for the ardently DIY obsessed. On You Still Have Summers, Johnsson stumbles upon some promising compositions ("Someone Special," "Bumblebee") but his amateur vocals are a tough hill to climb. In addition, several tracks suffer from low production values that would put Guided by Voices to shame, in turn wasting what might otherwise be salvageable songs ("Louise Dyer," "Buzzing Like Bumblebees on Speed"). Bedroom pop is a mixed bag, no doubt. Sadly, this is not one of Series Two's best.
