Mayfair & Huxley

"Ace Hardware Presents" 7"

Carthage Vs. Rome Records

Genre: punk rock

Des Moines, IA

March 12, 2009

Brash, manic punk rock inhabits this brief explosion from Des Moines, Iowa's Mayfair & Huxley. Don't expect much in the way of complexity or songwriting – just straightforward guitar/bass/drum/vox chaos. What the quartet has going for them is energy, although that only takes this record so far. Fortunately, it's a pretty short affair so it gets the job done, and gets it done well. These ecstatic bursts of energy are a good way to get feet (and/or fists) moving, and the superb production captures the dynamic remarkably well. Play this at a party in a big room with lots of hard surfaces. Oh yeah, and play it loud. [Comes on nifty, grey-marbled vinyl.]
