This swell circle of vinyl comes pressed
on beautiful pink marbled vinyl, marking a considerable investment for
the primarily CDR-centric Public Eyesore label. So was it worth it?
I'd say so. Dereck Higgins'
"Properties" occupies side A of this sterling frisbee, creating sound
out of eerie, randomly sparse clinks and clanks and samples. This is a
flurry of sonic bits that you just get a whiff of, evoking fleeting,
subliminal images. A crowd applauding here, wildlife quacking there. A
very interesting concept, but one that's overshadowed by...
Side B. Dino Filipe's "Ribbons."
Filipe brings on the dark, mysterious drone, registered plainly
with a pulsing bass part. There are eerily whispering samples, city
sounds, and even some guitar twangs. This is wonderfully and
unquestionably musical, exuding a futuristic film score
aesthetic. It is one of the most engaging
experimental compositions I've heard in a long time, but its
physical dimensions render it frustratingly
brief! This could be hours long and I'd still be listening...
