V/A - Swallowed By Machinery Volume Two (Fort Hazel Magic - forthazel.com) Mmmm a nice compilation by a cool little diy record label. The first song, Hi-Tech's "Crack Habit," is a very short but very good opening ditty. Pretty catchy, actually. It's interesting to see the mixture of styles represented here. There's indie pop, indie rock, punk, shoegazer, and a bunch of other neat genres in action. Some of the pieces here are forgettable, but lots of them, with their hip diy ethic, just work. The Planet The's "I whisper sweet nothings into your ear, with my sister's corpse on my breath" is a weird little rocker that is really cool. Mink Shoals's "straphangers" is a neat instrumental piece that has some alternative country elements, but still remains rock-ish and enjoyable. A Man Called Sun's "el dorado" is a nice, dream pop song that feels really airy and nice. Yummy. Bishop Of Battle's piece is also good, with lotsa guitar and drums. The Kung Fu's "oxiozone" is psychedelic and similar to Elevator To Hell. And then there are the rest of the songs. 19 songs, and they're all really good. This cd is highly recommended. Bonus points for the packaging, each one handmade and each one (of the 100 copies) is different. 94% |
