V/A - Ambiances Magnetiques: Volume
One
(Ambiances Magnetiques - www.actuellecd.com/)
[Genres: experimental, electronic, avant-garde]
Ooh, Ambiances Magnetiques,
that awesome experimental label based in Montreal. This music's a delight! The classical
approach (as opposed to some of the other rockier stuff) is a nice refreshment.
Fortunately, it's not all classical stuff, there's lots of faster, harder, electronic
stuff as well! Mmm, this stuff is kooky. There's a big mix here. From traditional jazz to
free jazz to electronica to world music to classical to 20th century composition to opera
to tango to everything in between, no matter who you are, there's gotta be something here
you're gonna like! And that's what makes this such an appealing listen. I think the mix of
vocals, tango-like instrumental backing, and guitar in Geneviève Letarte's is really
nice, and the oddball weirdo stuff in Martin Tétreault's "Des pas et des mois".
Robert Lepage's piece is a good, happy clarinet piece and both of René Lussier's efforts
are successful as well. To add to all that, the song by Les Granules always cheers me up,
and André Duchesne's calmer, laid-back piece is a nice thing to listen to - it's really
hard to describe but highly recommended! In fact, this whole album is recommended... find
it and GET IT!!!!!!!!!
