Phill Niblock - Touch Works, For Hurdy Gurdy and Voice (Touch Records - touch.demon.co.uk) Well, this is really well done. The sound of this album is extremely suspenseful and very nicely done. This is a series of two excellent, slowly-evolving pieces. While most listeners not versed in experimental music would get frustrated by the "slowness" of this work, the trained ear can fully appreciate this work, and the truly eclectic nature of it. When you get a cd from Touch Records, you expect something different, experimental, and refined. That has been the case from the very start, considering that this is the label that has released music by Fennesz, The Hafler Trio, Nocturnal Emissions, and even S.E.T.I. This is no different. For those interested in slightly ethnic, ambient avant-garde music, this is something that should definitely be in your collection. In fact, if youre a fan of any minimalist, droney music, this is still something that will fit well into your collection. If you don't like those genre at all, this probably won't please you. Also note that this is not the type of release that you may have heard on Niblock's FAX label. 79% |
