Phill Niblock - Music by Phill Niblock
(Experimental Intermedia - xirecords.org)
[Genres: experimental, avant-garde]
This strings cd is broken
into two songs. Of both of them, Early Winter, the 45 minute second track is much better.
Both suspenseful and beautiful, it is a must for experimental music enthusiasts.
Unfortunately, the casual listener may not find a 45 minute slow sloooooooooooooooow piece
that interesting. Atmosphere is the key here. If played in the right place, as
BACKGROUND music, this cd can definitely be good. What I'm saying here is that the
music is for soothing background sounds - it wouldn't exactly make a good catchy tv show
theme song. Then again, most tv shows don't have a 45 minute theme song. My
major point is that this is David Rosenboom style atonal music that will bore the pants
(and probably your shirt too) off you, unless you are knowledged in the subject of
experimental/avant-garde music. I also think that "Touch Works, For Hurdy Gurdy
and Voice" might be a better introduction to Phill Niblock's work.
