Is Where It Hurts EP
(Aesthetics - aesthetics-usa.com)
[Genres: indie rock, electronica]
Wow. Wow wow wow. Wow wow wow
wow wow wow wow wow. This is just marvellous. The first piece, "Home Is
Where It Hurts," is an amazing opener, a mixture of electronica, guitar, and vocals
that's just really good. Similar to other indie bands, except with a more
experimental touch to it. The second piece, "The Fact That You Failed," is
an instrumental (and slightly repetitive) guitar-and-drums piece that starts off very
calmly, but builds up and builds up until it reaches a shattering, feedback-drenched
ending that just astounds you. The first time I heard it was really loud in an art
studio (with lots of people around, working away). What was once a studio with lots
of conversations and gossip as the background ambience, was now a silent (except for the
music, of course) room with everybody still, just listening. They were just stunned.
The piece was like a more sonic Godspeed You Black Emperor song (with elements of
Fly Pan Am involved). The next song, "Cold Fire Woods of Western Lines,"
is more like the first song, with multiple vocals, drums, guitar, and a more happy,
fast-paced feel. "The World Touches Too Hard" is a more glitchy,
electronic piece with vocals that slightly resemble those of lo-fi musicians like Smog.
To finish it all off comes "It's Been A Long Time Since I Was Last Here,"
an epic, clocking in at over 8 minutes. This is completely a mixed bag of genres; I can't
wait for the upcoming full-length! There isn't a skippable song anywhere to be seen!
Once again: wow.
