Dani Linnetz - The Milk (CD)
(Self-released - www.danilinnetz.com)
(Genres: singer/songwriter, indie pop, pop)
"The Milk" is Dani Linnetz's first
full-length CD, following two EPs entitled "Paperdoll" and "Five and
Dime." Collecting nine songs, "The Milk" shines with crisp,
professional recording and developed, enjoyable songwriting. Linnetz's songs
primarily use a rhythm guitar and vocals set-up, with occasional accompaniment from bass
and drums. The problem with this is that the music often sounds bare and unfilled.
Although this style can sometimes be used effectively, within this album the
results are not as successful, and the music sometimes seems too sparse. Despite
this, "The Milk" is still a satisfying listen. Songs like "An
Excuse" and "Love Song" just beg to be compared to Alanis
Morissette, although Linnetz's voice and melodies are far less irritating. If you're
up for some light, ordinary singer/songwriter-type music, go out and get this album.
Otherwise, it isn't worth your while.
