Steffen Basho-Junghans - Inside [SAAH002]
(Strange Attractors Audio House - strange-attractors.com)
[Genres: minimalist, folk, relaxation]
This album
starts out with a 15 minute movement that starts very repetitively and gradually becomes
different throughout the piece. This piece is very nice, even meditative at times, and it
actually relaxes you while moving you at the same time. It is best listened to in the
dark. Important to note is that Steffen uses none other than an acoustic steel string
guitar for all of his pieces. As you can guess buy his instrument, much of his music is
folky. A good description would be "minimalist folk." Hearing an album from such
a legendary and self-taught musician, you expect a lot. And so the question is
does
it live up to it's title? Lets compare this to "Oreo-Os" cereal. Since this was
a cereal based on the delicious and legendary Oreo cookies, we were expecting a lot.
Unfortunately, the sucked. Well, they didn't suck, but they didn't live up to the
sheer perfection of Oreo cookies. I mean, you couldn't even pull them apart and eat the
white stuff first! What does this have to do with "Inside"? Well, Steffen was
given a similar problem, and he had to live up to his legend. The question remains,
though
did he or didn't he? Well, the answer is YES! A relaxing listen to this
beautiful soundscape in the dark brings you through many moods and feelings: meditation,
sorrow, "other worldliness," calmness
it all brings you to one conclusion:
what you're listening to is great. Let yourself relax and let the music take over your
senses. By the end of the third, beautiful movement, you'll be relaxed and refreshed.
