A Radio With Guts - Sugat in Eleven Parts (CD)
(Fort Hazel Magic - www.forthazel.com)
[Genres: experimental rock, indie, experimental]
A Radio With Guts is an experimental
rock band on the wonderful diy label, Fort Hazel Magic. This album, consisting of 11
songs, blends a whole plethora of genres together, including indie rock, electronica,
experimentalism, and just plain weirdness. Be warned though, despite the indie rock
influence, there are no vocals on this album. The first piece, "drums," for
example, is a neat little piece that has a very simple, but very effective beat to it. As
the song progresses, the beat becomes more and more unclear and cluttered, adding an
interesting affect. Interestingly enough, the tune got stuck in my head. Many of these
pieces, for example "aldric4smoke," contain eerie, haunting guitar playing and
sparse, but effective, drumming. Other pieces, like "test, okay?" feature more
glitch and noise, producing a weirder, but interesting, effect. After some electronic
experimentation, though, the songs always seem to dwelve into wonderful, simple guitar
playing. Altogether, words can't really sum up A Radio With Guts. Their music features a
whole bunch of influences and styles. This is very amateurish, but very good. With such
promise, I can definitely see this band producing some really groundbreaking music in the
near future. Recommended if you're interested in the whole non-noise diy scene out there.
