V/A - Ambiances Magnetiques: Vol. 3
(Ambiances Magnetiques - www.actuellecd.com/)
[Genres: experimental, electronic, avant-garde]
24 pieces for open minds.
Similar to volumes one and two, yet extremely different (everything on this label is
different!), this compilation is one of those things that gets better and better each time
you hear it. At first it's too weird. The second time it's pretty good. And the third,
it's awesome. There are a few pieces that just don't work altogether, unfortunately
(Michel F. Coté's "Trinette (à Cath) is a bit iffy, and not really enjoyable), but
highlights like the eerie "Un après-midi à la residence more than make up for it.
And for something truly beautiful, skip to Renée Lussier's "Vieille Branche," a
calm beauty to relax to. All this is good as both background and foreground music, and
nice at night. Go into a record store (might i suggest "Cheap Thrills" in
Montreal?), and get this cd. Pop it in, sit back, and put on that smile you reserve for
weekends. On a weekday.
