Here it is... The Blod Review Issue One!

And Academy's "Her and Hurt, Hears" (Best Kept Secret)
Ah, I love this.  Cleverly original pop from Wichita, Kansas.  The folks at the And Academy really know what they're doing, unlike those foolish learning academy people.  If you can boogie to mid-fi melodic cassette-pop, get your anus in gear and order this tape.  Best Kept Secret may be from Italy, but this one's worth the extra shipping dollars.

Elekibass’ “California” CD (HHBTM)
California is Japanese pop at its finest. They love Of Montreal and it shows; there’s even a cover of the infectious “Springtime is the Season” (US-exclusive bonus track - how’s that for irony?). If your up for some supersweet indie pop, Elekibass will satisfy!

Elekibass’ “Waikiki Rhythm” CD (Waikiki Record)
More sweet Japanese indie pop, just the way you like it. Japan-only release, so it might be hard to get your paws on it. It’s worth it though because these guys are such an awesome band!

LAM’s “Focus” CDR (Wood / Self-released)
Italy is a great country for electronic music, but LAM stick out. Nobody knows about them; they are, in essence, a hidden treasure. You just gotta hear what they can do, though, their music is very inspired stuff [if you got the noise / techno comp, you can hear a previously unreleased track of their more beat-based material]. DEE-LISH!

Filthy Turd’s “Violent Reaction” CDR (Voltagestress*r) Limited to 20 copies.
Now this is what it’s all about. Nearly 80 minutes of noise (one track) from Britain. It’s loud but surprisingly ambient, less harsh than other offerings. Really satisfying.

Sewer Electron / Filthy Turd “Sewer Turd” split CDR (Voltagestress*r) Limited to 30 copies.
Two tracks each by SE and FT. Sewer Electron pulls that whole “start off quiet and then explode” bit, while Filthy Turd’s contributions are noisy yet surprisingly listenable. Nice.

The Praying Gods / Telesmata split 3” CDR (UBUS) Limited to 25 copies.
Praying Gods (from London, Ontario) makes mixed, varied noise that is often comprised of actual tones. Sometimes quieter, sometimes loud and abrasive. Telesmata’s part is made using a SayIt voice synthesizer. It’s heavily manipulated and very compelling - sort of beautiful. Like pop music from another galaxy. Packaged in a nice box.

Robert Warner ‘s “Noise in the Countryside” 3” CDR (UBUS) Limited to 21 copies.
Quiet, almost peaceful glitchy noise. Spaced in regular intervals like dirt moving on the deck of a rocking boat. Remarkably tranquil yet inexplicably unnerving. Eventually becomes less restricted to intervals. Turns ambient near the end. Mesmerizing.

Telesmata’s “Woodcarving” 3” CDR (UBUS) Limited to 19 copies.
Ultra rare mini-CDR that’s short but sweet. Packaged in a hand-sewn bag. Field recording experiments using the sounds of woodcarving. Digitally manipulated. Works well with far-apart speakers because of the nice surround-sound effects. Hypnotic.

The “Home on the Range Vol.2” compilation CD (Bingo Lady Record Collective)
A collection of rock, pop, metal, and punk songs, some good and some not, that inexplicably features a terrific track by experimental noisician Pop Culture Rape Victim. More melodic songs by Split the Difference, Broadband Shortwave and Struckdown are also solid.

40 Watt Womb / Pop Culture Rape Victim ”bigsky” split CDR (no label)
Very few copies of this sucker were made, so consider yourself lucky if you’ve obtained one. You get 2 cds, one by each outfit. Both halves are great, but PCRV’s is more cacophonic and varied. I dig the warped samples. Trading for it makes for a worthy investment.

The “Pop Music Favorites” compilation CDR (UBUS)
Terrific noise / experimental comp featuring delightful works by the likes of Sickness, 13RXTNLE, D.S.A, and more. 24 tracks. Everything from experimental to harsh noise. Rock music for those who hate rock music.
