THE BRAN FLAKES pillage thrift stores and family garages for
musical artifacts of kitsch and schmaltz, then throw 'em
in the wood-chipper and
emerge with mini-masterpieces. Seriously, these guys are the best
things to come out of the musique concrete scene since Karlheinz
Stockhausen, and they're even giving him a run
for his money. The duo has a new album, I HAVE
HANDS, coming out on Illegal Art early in 2009 - their first for the
label. Here we've got The Bran Flakes'
TOP 3 FAVORITE SNACKS, complete with instructions so even your
sorry ass can eat in true Bran style. --
TOP 3 FAVORITE SNACKS TO MAKE AT HOME SUPER FAST AND FILL YOU UP!
Somewhat fast. Mid-Priced. Delicious. No Soylent Green.
------------------------------------------------------------------
NUMBER ONE! ::: CHEESE SALAMI BREAD
Many variations here but here are the staples of the plate of
destiny...
Cheese: Irish Cheddar, Smoked Gouda, Smoked Cheddar
Salami: Gallo if at supermarket. Your best bet is to go to a good deli
(Italian if in your city) and request 'Cooked Salami' which is seasoned
with garlic and spices, then oven-baked. If they don't bake the salami at
the deli you can request Genoa or Soppressata.
Bread: Fresh (French) Baguette. Put in oven for 2-3 minutes. Soften
with butter while heating or after when bread is warm.
Optional: Replace Bread with crackers, such as toasted sesame crackers
or standard Wheat Thins. Brie and Camembert are popular alternate cheeses.

NUMBER TWO! ::: STOVETOP POPCORN
Need: Large Pot with Lid, Canola Oil, Popcorn kernels (organic
optional), Butter, Salt.
Place large pot on stovetop
Cover the bottom with Canola Oil, just enough to cover the bottom.
Put 3 kernels in the pot.
Turn heat on almost high (7 on a 1-10 scale of heat).
Wait.
When first kernel pops the temperature is right.
Now pour in your kernels, a cup or two depending on how big the pot is.
Put the lid on.
Start shaking on the burner (don't lift up and shake, keep it on the
burner).
Keep randomly shaking until you either explode your top or the popping
stops.
Optional Butter. When you put the first kernels in, throw a stick of
butter in a side saucepan and put it on low heat.
Now after you finish, get a big bowl and fill to 1/3 with popcorn.
Salt and butter and toss.
Now add another layer of popcorn and repeat.
Do this again to fill the bowl.
If you do it right you will never burn a kernel. If you need kitchen
assistance email otis@otisfodder.com and I can give you a number of one of
our trained popcorn professionals to guide you through the process or have
a representative in your area come to your home to give you on-the-spot
support (nominal fee required for in-home service).
------------------------------------------------------------------
NUMBER THREE ::: ICE CREAM AND BLUEBERRIES
Those little packs of blueberries you find in the grocery in the
plastic trays (next to raspberries). Grab one. Now grab a pint of Vanilla
Ice Cream (Haagen-Dazs is a favorite I have). Now put blueberries in a
bowl. Eat the top layer of ice cream and when you have enough room to put
in a couple of blueberries do so! Now eat. Replace blueberries little by
little as they disappear. Very simple.
