Hi Matt,

Here is our list of ten crucial recordings that we came up with.

We have 10 artists (though we lumped 2 albums together under the same artist a couple times because it was difficult to narrow it to just one). Hope this works:

Wendy Carlos - "A Clockwork Orange Soundtrack"

It can be considered the template for most electronic music that we have today.

-

Pink Floyd - "The Piper at the Gates of Dawn"
+
Pink Floyd - "Wish You Were Here"

"Piper" is simply one of the greatest psychedelic records ever put out.
"Wish You Were Here" is a masterful concept album with an eerie, personal gravity.
It has perfect flow from start to finish.

-

sigur rós - "ágćtis byrjun"

There are so many overwhelming emotions and images that are conjured by listening to this album...it's otherworldly.

-

Depeche Mode - "Violator"

Nine songs, perfectly timed, perfectly executed. Synth-pop at its finest.

-

Brian Eno (w/ Daniel Lanois and Roger Eno) - "Apollo: Atmospheres and Soundtracks"
+
Brian Eno - "Music for Airports"

These are the ultimate realizations of Eno’s ambient trials.
They carry an unshakable gorgeousness and a deep emotional resonance.

-

My Bloody Valentine - "Loveless"

Completely changed the way music could sound. Made it clear that noise and pop music could be married and that things were going to be different from that point forward.

-

Windy and Carl - "Antarctica"
+
Windy and Carl - "Consciousness"

These are two of the most beautiful albums ever recorded.
Pure, simple and layered in sound. The sound takes you away.

-

Stars of The Lid - "Tired Sounds of..."

It's all about the sounds between spaces; the textures more than the colors.

-

The Olivia Tremor Control - "Black Foliage, Volume One"

A masterpiece of sound collage, experimentalism, pop music and theme.
Lo-fi, complex, thoughtful and 100% addictive.

-

Boards of Canada - "Music Has The Right To Children"

Like listening to a bunch of memories from a time when you really enjoyed everything in life. Catchy, nostalgic repetitions that you want to hang onto forever.
